DRIVING THE TURKS BACK. GERMANS USING PRUSSIC ACID IN SHELLS. PETROGRAD, Jan. 22. A communique states: "We repulsed au enemy attempt to capture a hill north of Chartorysk. "Our Caucasian forces captured the town of Hassanktda and drove the fleeing enemy far from the foi-ts of Erzenoum, s&bring and taking prisoner over fifteen hundred men. Tlie enemy abondoned huge supplied. We drove back the Turks west of Vastan, on the southern shore of Lake Van." Riga reports that the enemy on the Dvinsk is using shells exuding prussic acid gas, the fumes of which are active five hours after, while splinters of the shells quickly kill even the slightly wounded.
