PETROGRAD, Sept. 15. A communique says : We have taken 40,000 Austro-German prisoners since 30th August.

The German pressure continues m the Piksten and Sauken Lakes district and at Rakiszki, westward of JacobstadtDvinsk. line.

We repulsed repeated attacks m the Podbrodze district, especially an intense attack to the westward.

There is determined fighting westward of Slonim. . .

• The enemy's cavalry fell back near the confluence of the Turia and Pupet.

We crossed the Gory m the Derajoo district and made progress. We captured a whole Austrian battalion, and stopped the enemy's offensive m the Berawno and Dlevan districts with a vigorous counter-stroke, and then advanced into the district westward of Klevna, taking 1300 prisoners. We ejected, the enemy with great losses from the villages of Rydomel and Rmstoki, westward of Wysznewec, and took prisoner upwards of 2000. Our offensive was continued at Gontow and Ditkowec.

South-westward of Wysznewec wo captured 140 officers, 7300 men, one heavy and six) lig-ht guns, and much booty. We are pursuing the enemy westward of the Sereth front.

There are fierce actions westward of Tarnopol. On the 12th we took prisoner 35 officers and 2700 men.

T he Times' Petrograd correspondent says the seizure of a portion of the railway line at Svienbiany was the result of a cavalry raid, not a general advance.
