The High Commissioner reports : — LONDON, Sept. 15, 5 10 a.m. The Press Bureau reports that the Russian success m Galicia continues. Further important captures are reported. Prom August 30th until September 12th the Russians had taken prisoner forty thousand Austro-Germans.

BERLIN, Sept. 15. Correspondents m the East give most interesting accounts of the fighting on the Sereth m Galicia. The east bank of the river had been converted into a veritable fortress, which, combined with the natural conditions of the soil, made the river enormously strong. On the western outskirts of Tanapol at the bridgehead, bomb-proof shelters and trenches were constructed.

, By concentrated attacks from the bridgeheads, the Russians exerted great jn-essure upon General Bothmer's army and after a stubborn battle m steppe ■country, utterly devoid of trees and full of swamps and marshes, Bothmer's troops, which included the Prussian Guards, were repulsed from the heights of the east bank of the Stypa.

The Austrians are meeting with enormous difficulties. A portion of their army has been forced to remain inactive amidst a region full of stagnant water. Continuous rains have acccentuated the dreary landscape.
