There s waa an immediate counter-attack, and almost the whole of the former Jfreu'ch position was reconquered. At Calonne the French repulsed German counter-attacks, and enlarged their earlier gains. . lii Lorraine' reconnaissance parties, keeping contact with the enemy, reached works west. of Gondi'eiKni and found them unoccupied. The Germans, m retiring, stopped iii trenches south of Feintrey. Progress has continued m Alsace, we having captured the cemetery "at Metseral. The French gained possession of the railway station, and then carried the village by assault. Following a hot combat the line was pushed 500 metres beyond the outskirts of the ..village m the direction, of Meyershof. The action yielded numerous prisoners.
