TURKS HOSTILE TO THE WAR.
ATHENS, March 30. Envoys despatched to the Porto by the governors of the Asiatic provinces describe the war as markedly unpopular among the Turkish masses, who are greatly impressed joy the loyal attitude of the Mussulmans m the countries of the Christian belligerents. Certain of the leading Mussulmans m Anatolia recently sent a secret mission to the Grand Shereef of Mecca . to request him to guide them as to the attitude they should maintain toAvards the Avar.
The Shereef gave the mission to understand that the Allies were not the enemies of Islam, especially emphasising the notable liberty of conscience which Moslems enjoyed under British rule.
These declarations, by the Grand Shereef of Mecca, the highest spiritual authority of Islam, have produced great uneasiness m the higher Mussulman circles of Constantinople, the members of which, depite the prevailing circumstances, dare not openly offend the guardian of tbe Prophet's tomb.
