RUSSIA'S GREAT BATTLES.
CONTINUE WITH GREAT INTENSITY.
LONDON, May 28. Military critics point out that the Russian trendies south-east of Przemysl are fortified with reinforced concrete, hence the determined resistance. ' The Archduke Joseph Ferdinand has concentrated large reinforcements . on an eight-mile line from Hussakow. Six miles behind is the Lemberg -railway, which is supplying all the Russians m the region. The estimated German, casualties m the West Galieian drive are already 106,000. A Vienna official message says thc Austrians captured the Nienowice-Hosc-dysko height, taking 2000 prisoners and six guns, and penetrated the Russians' main position near Hussakow, southeast of Przemysl, capturing 2800 prisoners and eleven machine-guns. The report further states that the Austrians have broken the line near Stryj, and that the Russians are retreating. A Russian official message reports that a stubborn battle on both batiks of the San between Przemysl and the river Lubasz continues with great" intensity. The enemy on May 2o opened a determined offensive on the whole front from the Dniester marshes to Dolina. Tlie Germans m three days suffered enormous losses, and were nowhere successful. Hostile elements which penetrated between Point Duppui, near Stryj, -were destroyed by our fire, and during a, counter-attack we took many prisoners.
