DESTRUCTION OF SHIPS
THE EMDEN'S RAID. I BRITISH WARSHIP IN PURSUIT. I. CALCUTTA, Sept. 22. The German cruiser Emden, assisted by misty weather and intercepting wireless ! messages, sank between September 10 and 14 two colliers, two empty steamers, and the steamer Diplomat, with a total of cargo worth £350,000, including 40,000 packages of tea. All the captured crews were tranferred to the Kabanga, which was sailing for America. Tlie Kabanga arrived at. Calcutta on September 6. A British warship is pursuing < lie Emden, which escaped to the sov'hward. AU sailings m the Bay of IV-n* gal are temporarily cancelled. The Emden caused British owners and
underwriters a loss^ of three-quarters of a million. Tlie Germans treated the British crews well.
