The staff at the Gisborne Sheepfarmers' Frozen Meat Co.'s workjs at Kaiti, assembled yesterday afternoon for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr. J. E. Tomlinson, who has been meatinspector at the factory for the past six years, and. has been transferred to Eitham as stock inspector. Mr. J. R. Jones, the works manager, on of the staff, presented Mr. TomJinsen with a suit case and travelling rugyancj also with a ladies' conrrpauipn and handbag for Mrs Tomlinson. In doing .so Mr Jones voiced, the regret of the whole staff at Mr. Tomlinson's departure, but offered him their congratulations upon the promotion, wliich was well deserved. Mr. Jones referred to the capable manner m which Mr Tomlinson had carried out his onerous duties, and how he had maintained the respect of all the men by his tactful and kindly disposition, which, was to a very large extent the cause of the good feeling between them. In supplementing Mr. Jones' remarks, Mr. T. Spiers, head butcher referred to Mr. TTomlinson's popularity with the men m that departnient. Although tihe inspector had always placed duty first, there had never been anything but" the best of feeling between them. Speaking on behalf of the head office staffs Mr. Phi! Hamilton mentioned how carefully and accurately Mr. Tomlinson had prepared, his returns. "During the whole six years," he said, "his papers have only been returned once, and that was for a> trifling error which was hardly liis fault, and that spoke a good deal for where Governmen. returns were concerned." In returning thanks, Mr. Tomlinson endorsed what had been said about the good feeling between them. He said he felt the parting very keenly, and he would not have cared to leave Gisborne but for the health of. his family, which he thought wbuld be beriented-'ai. Elthairhl He was, he mentioned, going out of the meat inspecting line^iinto the /stock inspectorship. - Mr. - Tomlinson.' leaves Gisborne on Sunday or Wednesday.
