The steamer City of Cardiff, frofh Havre to Cardiff, was driven ashore by a strong Avesterly gale at Millbay, two miles south-east of Land's End, 'yesterday afternoon. v - In response to urgent signals the Sen : nen, lifeboat and rocket brigade Avent. to the' rescue. The latter managed to get a lino on board. This Avas secured, and the first to be sent ashore Avas". the cabin boy. Then' folloAved the miite's Avife and the captain's Avife, and one of the. 'crew Avith the mate's tAvo-year-old habv boy. The other "members of the crew folloAved,.ti*tl all tAventy w.ero landed, the rescues being greeted Avith cheers from those on shore. The 'cap* tain, who throughout behaved with the utmost courage and coolness, Avas the last to leave the vessel.. It is feared that the vessel, Avhich Avas badly damaged by the rocky bottom, will become a total wreck.
