PLENTY OF OIL.
ENOUGH TO SUPPLY ALL THE WORLD'S WANTS. Dr. Rudolph Diesel, of Munich, m an interesting lecture delivered at a meeting of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers on the Diesel oil engine, reassured all those fear that there is not sufficient oil available to replace coal. "It has been proved by recent geo : logical researches," said Dr. Diesel, "not only that there is probably on thc f;lobe as much, or perhaps even more, iquid fuel than coal, but also that it is. more conveniently distributed as regards its geographical position. "The world's production of crude oil," he continued, "increases at present three and a half times more quickly than the production of coal, and . . . the ratio of increase itself is steadily getting higher." Dr. Diesel added that 40 per cent. , of the present production of mineral oil is already sufficient to supply the Avhole of the naval and mercantile fleets of the Avorld Avith poAver, provided they, were Avorked by Diesel engines. He declared that by means of this oil engine tlie monopoly of coal had been broken.
