BUTTER FOR CANADA.

(Special to Herald.)

AUCKLAND, this day

On the first sailing of the Marama for Vancouver the Canadian Trade Commissioner m Auckland (Mr W. A. Beddoe) sent a cose of butter as a present to his Minister, and the butter was forwarded to Ottawa, and put m cold storage. Mr Beddoe has now received a letter from the Deputy Miuister for Customs (Mr O'Hara), m which he states that the produce arrived m Ottawa m 27 days, and m splendid condition, despite the fact that the weather was extremely hot. It was put m the cold storage, and the manager there became so struck with its fine appearance and quality that, he requested the Minister to inquire from the Auckland Commissioner the cost of a trial shipment, with a view to purchasing more largely m the future. The letter concluded with the words : "It is the best butter I have aver tasted."

"This communication," said Mr Beddoe, "means that the possibility is opened up for sending New Zealand butter as far oast as Ottawa, which is 3000 miles from Vancouver. I have always considered the market was on the west coast, and as far east as Winnipeg; but if butler can find its way as far as Ottawa it makes it possible to supplyall the other large centres m Ontario, such as Toronto (population 350,000) and Hamilton (120,000)." In conclusion, Mr Beddoe said that arrangements were being made for a trial shipment.
