THE PARNELL SEAT.

(Special to Herald.)

AUCKLAND, last night

Probably an official announcement will be made to-night that Mr Massey will contest the Parnell seat m opposition to the Attorney-General, Sir John Findlay. Mr F. G. M. Moss, the selected Opposition candidate, has been m indifferent health for some time past, and it is reported that he will on that account decide to withdrawn from the campaign. A meeting of Opposition sjpporters will be held this evening to consider the position, and it is understood that Mr Massey, who will 1 be present at the meeting, will be asked to light the Parnell seat with Sir John Findlay. Humor is already busy with the statement that Mr Massey has agreed with Mr Moss to take his place m the field, and when seen by a. Star representative this morning Mr Massey did not deny the rumor, stating that just at present he preferred to say absolutely nothing about the matter. The position will be thoroughly discussed by Mr Massey with supporters of the Opposition at a meeting to be held this evening, and a definite announcement on the subject will be made subsequently. A prominent Opposition supporter this afternoon staled that it was decidedly on the cards that Mr Massey would be .a candidate for ParneJl. Hehad been summoned to attend an important meeting of the Reform party at 7 o'clock this evening. It was understood, he said, that Mr Moss would retire on account of ill-health, and that Mr Massey would be prevailed upon to accept nomination for the seat. The report that Mr Mnfsey will be a candidate for Parnell has gained such force m Auckland that probable candidates for Franklin are already being discussed, and the names of Messrs J. G.Rutherford and Isaac Gray have been freely mentioned as likely to be considered m tho selection of an Opposition nominee m place of Mr Massey for that electorate.
