His Lordship informed a reporter that the new church at Te Arai would not be formally opened until after his return from England, which he purposes visiting, from February to August of next year. Referring to church matters generally, Bishop Averill said there was a good deal of church building contemplated. They were about to build a church at Hastings. Recently he had opened two churches m the diocese, one at Mamaku, 16 miles from Rotorua, and one at Matamau, m Hawke's Bay. The new Holy Trinity Church, which was to be started soon, would be a more ■worthy church for Gisborne, whilst the new church at Wairoa would alao be a fine building.
