MONEY MARKET.

The outstanding- feature of the bunk returns for the September quarter is the heavy growth that has taken place m the advances. As compared with the June quarter, au increase m advances and decrease m deposits is the usual movement, but on the present occasion we find that the advances are over three millions more than they were a year ago, but deposits have also grown by sonic £810,000, leaving a net call on the banks by the customers of some £2,400,000. These demands are attributable, we think, chiefly to the heavy growth m importation, coupled with a shortage ol something like two millions m the exports, as compared with the previous year. The excess of deposits over advances, though much less than a year ago, still shows a. good supply of money avaikible for all legitimate requirements. As far as prices are concerned, the prospects for the coming export season are very satisfactory., but rain is needed m many parts to bring on the pastures, otherwise, the output will suffer materially. There arc still ■ complaints -of a- lack of substance m trade and of confidence, the raison for which is somewhat hard to account for, but the uncertainty of 'trie Hitnre of labor legislation is, no doubt, accountable fpr a feeling of unrest'on the part of investors. — N.Z. Trade Review.
