OBITUARY.
£Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. A gentleman widely known and es* teemed m Otago and Southland passed away m Invercargill yesterday morning, m the person of Mr Alexander Hardman. Mr Hardman has been m poor health fpr a considerable time, and his death was not unexpected by members of Iris family. Deceased was born m Edinburgh iii 1840. He left his native town for Melbourne m the early sixties to take up a position m the Union Bank, and m 1866 crossed to New Zealand and joined the Dunedin branch of the same institution. For many years he was manager of the bank at Oaniaru, and later he associated himself with the Colonial Bank at Dunedin, and subsequently became manager of the Commercial Property Company. Eight or nine years ago he removed to Invercargill and since has been living m. comparative' retirement m this town. Deceased is survived by his widow and family of three sons and one daughter. The sons are Messrs A. L. Herdman, M.P., J. G. Herdman, managei* Dalgety and Co., Napier, F. W. Herdman, manager Dalgety. and Co., Hamilton, and the daughter is Miss Herdman, nurse m the Invercargill Hospital.
