FIGHTING AT TONKING.
FRENCH AND CHINESE. HEAVY CASUALTIES. (Prew Asan. — By Telegraph — Copyright. ) (Received January 24, 9.30 a.m ) TARIS, Junuaiy 23. News has been received that a French column of 400 surprised a. large body of Chinese regulars, pillaging at Tonking villages. A three hours' battle ensued. The Chinese had 300 killed and 300 wounded, and the French 49 killed, and tho commander seriously wounded.
