HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

* : — The monthly meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held last evening, when there were m attendance : Messrs Joyce, Warren, Johnston, and Harding. There not being a quorum, only the reports were dealt widli. Mr Harding was voted to the chair. REPORTS. The Treasurer's monthly statement showed: — Receipts: Patients' fees £20 15s, subscriptions £10 16s, rent Herbert road house to December 24th £4 11s, District Board requisition £240, total £276 2s. Disbursements : Bank overdraft, December 17th, 1 1902, £113 18s 7d, accounts passed December 17th £101 2s 7d, total £215. Balance bank credit : Balance January 14th, 1903, £61 0s lOd. Accounts presented herewith for payment £115 3s lOd. Memo. : District Board requisition paid to December 31st, 1902. The donations -were: Sister Eliza and William Richardson, each £1 ; T. A. Coleman and A. T. Coleman, each ss ; W. P. Finnerau and Wm. Puttie., each £2 2s ; J. A. Harding and Little Bros., each £1 Is ; Wm. Gorman, 2s 6d ; John Ferguson (shearers* list) £1 17s '6d; total, £1U 16s. The Chairman said that, considerbig the state of their finances a short time back, the position of the Hospital was very satisfactory. The monthly report showed : Patients remaining from last month 21, admitted during tlie month 21, discharged 23, died 3, remaining at date 16. Four patients were shown as suffering from typhoid fever, two of which were convalescent and two being treated. One case was from Te Arai, aaid another from Murewai. "That is a low number for January," commented Mr Warren. "A very satisfactory report." Tihe Visiting Committee, Messrs Joyce and Johnston, reported that matters at the Hospital were 'satisfactory. Messrs Joyce and Macfarlane were appointed a Visiting Committee for tlie ensuing month. IMPORTANT BUSINESS. The Chairman referred to the two matters which were to have come before the Trustees that evening, viz., the proposal of the Friendly Societies' Conference for a concession m Hospital fees for their members, and Mr Warren's notice of motion that the operating room at the Hospital be open to all medical men m tlie town for major operations, with tlie consent of the Hospital medical officer. Mr Harding stated he had stayed m Gisborne expecting that these important subjects would be discussed at that night's meeting. _Mr Johnston said he understood the Friendly Societies wished for a reply as soon as possible. Other members were against adjourning consideration of the matters until next ordinary meeting, and at the suggestion of Mr Warren,- it was decided to hold a special meeting of the Trustees on the 28UU mst., when, m addition to any general business to be dealt with, the two proposals will be discussed.
