BOWLING TOURNAMENT.

Hastings 15 Gisborne 17 v. Wangamii 14 Kaiti 22 v. Paliiatua 18 Pelone 30 v. Masterton 14 Patea 22 v. Stratford 16 Napier 27 v. ' Victoria 14 Newmarket 24 v. Waverley 11 New Plymouth 30 v. Wellington 27. The surprises of the morning's play were the defeat of Auckland by Upper Plains and the particularly close finish between Palmerston and Hastings, the latter scoring five on the last three heads and getting within one of Palmerston, who are leading for the championship with six wins. (Special to Herald.) PALMERSTON N., this day. Gisborne has so far lost one game, viz. Palmerston North. There was great excitement over this match. Gisborne played well, but were defeated by 27 to 16. Whataupoko have lost one game, being defeated by Hastings. The rink was a new one and very erratic, and was very heavy owing to the rain. Whataupoko had one bye yesterday. Gisborne and Whataupoko have yet to meet. Kaiti have played three matches, lost two, and won' one, viz., Stratford. It is strange that Stratford beat Wellington, Wellington beat Kaiti, and Kaiti beat Stratford. . Whataupofcq made an. excellent stand m their first game to-day, beating Carterton, who scored m three heads only, by 36 to 6. Simson kept his team well m hand, all the members playing welL : .. Gisborne had an exciting game with Wanganui, the scoring being very even. Tliey were first one ahead and then one behind. Ponsford saved them repeatedly, and received a great ovation. Kaiti were weak at the beginning of their game, but they came with a great dash, finishing three ahead. All the members are playing well. (From another correspondents) ■ Whatanpoko simply had it all their own way with Carterton, and made fun of them. Gisborne had a tough fight with Wanganni, .ill playing well. Kaiti made a remarkable recovery. Pahiatua had it a]l thg|r own way at the start, but long heads and sunshine for Witty gave them the victory. The green is very keen.
