SAD FATALITY.

■♦ MAN KILLED BY FALL OF EARTH. A fatal accident occurred on the railway works near Kailarotalu this mcrn■mg. An. elderly man named Charles Jolmsen was engaged with a gang of men on a cutting two miles beyond Kaitaratahi'; when a small slip of earth ocr cureed. The face of the cutting was only some Bft high, and the quantity of earth falling was about a barrowful, but this, coming off a papa face, struck Johiusen with considerable force, and knocked him down, inflicting internal injuries. The matter was promptly reported to Mr Armstrong, the engineer m charge, who lost no time m securing medical assistance. Arrangements were made for a special train, which left town at 11.30 with Dr. Morrison, and made, the run to Kaitaratahi m 21 minutes. Tlie unfortunate man, however, who was. removed to ithe KaitaraUihi Hotel, died just as the doctor arrived. / Johnsen was a married man; his wife living in 'another part of the cblony. His little son, was living with him on the works.
