DEATH OF A VETERAN.

(Per Press Association.) NAPIER, this day. The death is announced of Captain Tuk~e, who took a prominent part in the Native war. He arrived in the ship Cornwall in 1851, and when the War broke out was appointed by. Sir George Grey as second in command, under Colonel J- Fraser, of the Military Settlers, and saw active service on the East Coast, for which he received the New Zealand war medal. He was also for 18 months in charge of the Native prisoners at the Chathams, but was not there when they escaped. Deceased was in his 75th year. '
