[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Yesterday. While in the harbor the Sherard Osborne lost two of her Chinese crew, and the owners had to pay £200 poll tax. Then the death of a Lascar delayed the departure of the vessel for Sydney, andjjust as she was preparing to sail yesterday auother Lascar died, and the captain was obliged to remain in port until this morning. Other members of tho crew are suffering from various complaints. The death is announced of H. P. Higginson, civil engineer, aiial 63. The deceased gentleman was well known throughout the colony. He has been in failing health for some considerable time. Colonel Penton is preparing a scheme for the encouragement and equipment of rifle clubs. AUCKLAND, Yesterday. Earl Beauchamp arrived this morning from Rotorua by special train. There was a guard of honor of the Navals, and he was received by Captain Alexander (private secretary to the Governor), the Mayor, and the Hon. J. Carroll, and drove off to Government House in the Governor's carriage, where Earl Beauchamp inspected the Rough Riders' contingent drawn up in the grounds to receive him. Encomiums on the appearance of the contingent are universal. Mr Pittar's yacht Rainbow, successful in her races in Sydney harbor, was brought over from Sydney by the Waihora. John Henderson, Postmaster of Maketu, died suddenly at the telegraph instrument. He has been failing with lung trouble for some years. Deceased was 37.
