Evidence taken at the enquiry into the East Greta colliery accident shows that two miners alleged that the timbers were bent and broken for several days before the accident occurred, and that one of the deceased expressed a determination not to work in the mine until the defect was remedied. The mine manager promised that the timber would be replaced by the end of the week. A witness deposed tluit the acoident occurred at the spot where the timbers were defective. Jan. 19. — Good rains have fallen in the greater part of the colony. BRISBANE. Jan. 19. The Premier has wired to Mr Reid that he desires by every means in his power to further £he cause of federal union, and has much pleasure in accepting the invitation to attend the Premiers' conference. MELBOURNE, Jan. 19. The Australasian's final estimate of the wheat harvest is 20,421,000 bushels, 6,000,000 more than the greatest previous record. About 12,200,000 bushels will be available for export.
