The match between Wanganui and Napier on the second day (says the Chronicle) was a clinker. Up to ten beads the teams scored point for point. At the fourteenth head the Hawke's Bay " repa. " had a lead of one point, but this was recovered by the local men in the next head, at which the score stood even. Great interest was manifested in the play off, every shot being watched by a large crowd of spectators. With Wanganui lying two on the Jack It looked as though Rodwell must get home, but Gilbert, sending down a beauty, succeeded in cutting one of the opposing bowls clear. His next shot, however, Was not so successful, and it was left for tho skips to settle the argument. Rodwell, with his first ball, drew on to the Jack, carrying it back a few inches. Evans played a drive, which missed, and Rodwell then drew another shot with his second bowl. Wanganui was then lying five, and, instead of playing a draw, Evans elected to attempt to send the Jack into the ditch, but failed, and Wanganui won by five points. A match for " The Feathers " was played at the bowling green yesterday afternoon, Messrs Wyllic, Davies, Bright, and Nasmith being the challenging team. The holders, Messrs Kilgour, Honncssy (sub.). Bh'ss, and Gandhi went away with a lead, but the teams were even when the fifth, head was reached. Tho challengers then drew away from their opponents Until they had established a lead of eight point*', this being on the fifteenth head. The holders then rallied, and on the nineteenth head were within n point of their opponents. The last heads were very interesting, but the holders were not able to get on terms with the challenger*, who won after a hard-fought game by two points.
