He was for 28 years employed in the firm of Levin and Company. ■ t At a meeting of creditors of a bankrupt grocer to-day, a resolution was passed requesting the Assignee to make representations to the Government on the frequency with which transfers of property are made . to wives for the purposes of defrauding the creditors, and asking for an amendment of the Bankruptcy Act to prevent the practice. In this particular case the wife seemed to have a nice little stock of goods of her own, and he intended to examine her.about them. The debtor was unable to give any satisfactory explanation, and one of the creditors said it would give him great pleasure to assist in sending him to • gaol. The Assignee said it was an unsatisfactory bankruptcy, for no books had been kept, and it was decided to have a public examination. WANGANUI, To-day. Mr A; B. Pyetout opposes Mr Geo. Hutchison for the Patea seat at the next election as a Government supporter. Several other candidates are spoken of. NELSON, To-day. The crew have left theßtranded schooner Sir Henry.- Three attempts were made to tow her off but failed. The vessel is high - on the beach. She had made no water. Thecargo was jettisoned. Efforts will be renewed at spring tides to float her. The boat is valued at £1500, and the cargo at £1000, insured in the New Zealand office for £800. ■ The Sir Henry is owned by Pateson, Michael and Company, Hokitika. MASTERTON, To-day. Mr M. Burke,' of Eketahuna, has been definitely announced a candidate for Maaterton at the next general election in opposition to Mr Hogg.
