WELLINGTON, To-day.
The settlers in Pelorus Sound are taking steps to foster the oyster industry, and, several applications are to be sent in to the Commissioner of Customs for permissive licenses for artificial oyster beds.
PALMERSTON NORTH, To-day.
The Empire Hotel at Aahurst has been burned down. It was occupied by W. Sheehy. When the fire was discovered it had too great a bold to be extinguished. The insurances are £900 in. the .-Phoenix, Palatine, and Standard. The loss is £400 above the insurance.
BUNEDIN, To-day.
The Typographical Association has resolved that owing to the large number of unemployed compositors throughout the colony, private employers be urged to abolish, the system of overtime. v Henry Rowe, a well-known figure in athletic circles, died yesterday from tuberculosis and meningitis, supervening after a repeated attack of influenza.
