Cowardly Assault on an old Man.
Dunhdin, to-day. A cowardly assault was committed on Wood, an old man, a resident of Pine Hill, by a young man named Barrett, who waylaid him. After beating him on the head. and face with v stick, he backed Wood's horse and cart over an embankment nearly 20 feet high. The horso was killed, but Wood by jumping out managed to escape serious injury. Wood dragged himself to Pine Hill schoolhouse, where he passed the night, and. was next morning found by the neighbors and taken to the hospital.
