It is stated on good authority that the dissension in the Cabinet, which led to the threatened resignation of Sir Thomas Mcllwraith, Premier, was due to the action of the Northern faction, led by the Hon. Mr John Murtagh Macrossan, Secretary or Public Works and Mines, who were angry at the overthrow of the black labor question. The Northerners were supported by the Hons. Boyd, Dunlop, Morehead, Colouial Secretary, and the Hon W. Patteson, a member of the Cabinet without portfolio. Official explanation states that the difference of opinion exists only as to one of tho items in the estimates. The latter is regarded as merely a efinu-x belli, and efforts are being made to effect a reconciliation.
