MINING ACCIDENTS.
Hokitika, to-day. Two mining accidents, which almost miraculously escaped being attended with fatal results, occurred at Rirnu. A man named John Vincent was sinking a shaft from which a huge boulder waa being drawn. When the atone was a foot from the surface the windlass broke and fell with the boulder down the shaft. No escape was possible. The boulder jammed in the shaft during its descent. The windlass fell on the man, but did not seriously injure him, and he waa able to walk home after being extricated. In the other case a large piece of rock fell on a man named James Perry in a drive, doing him great injury. He was immediately conveyed to the hospital.
