DROWNING AT NAPIER.

Napier, to-day. Chas. R. Cleveland, the first mate of the ship Piako was drowned this morning. The ship was lying out in the roadstead, and the boat had just been sent away to another ship when Cleveland's cap blew overboard, and telling a boy to throw him a line, he jumped into the sea. A line was thrown him but it failed to reach him, then a life-buoy was thrown and the lifeboat was instantly lowered, but deceased sank soon after striking the water, and boing a splendid swimmer it is supposed he was either seized by cramp or a shark. He was 29 years of age.
