Two men, Atkinson ami Hall, were charged before Mr Carew, R.M., with playing an unlawful game on the raccoon iv, by means of a goose and marble. One of the accused ia one of the recent arrivals from|Sydncy. After evidence and argument, Mr Carew decided that the game came within the scope of section 7 of the Gaming and Lotteries Amendment Act, and said it appeared to have been instituted by some one of legal ability, and was outside the effect of the law. The men were afterwards on the racecourse doing a large business. WELLINGTON, This day. The Stormbml left at 12.40 to-day_ with 60 representatives for Rifle Association Meeting, including the Southern Marlborough and Wellington contingents. AUCKLAND, This day. It is understood that information has been received from Frisco by Sir Julius Yogel, to the effect that Spreckel’s Oceanic Company has bought from Pearce the steamships Australia and Zealand.
