Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club.

The annual meeting of the members of this Club was held at Ballam’s Hotel, Waverlejq last Friday night. Present, Messrs J. W. Doric (in the chair), W. Brewer, C. Brewer, G. Newland, C. Doric, A. Symes, C. Symes, J. Belcher, D. Ballam, W. W. Mitchell, J. Chadwick, Norman, and J. B. Taylor, hon. sec. and treasurer. The first business was to ballot foi new members, and the following gentlemen, proposed at a former meeting, were duly elected ; William Wilson, John Cotter, William Keith, Frank Seed, Thos. Baton, George Howie, Alfred Gower, Charles Duric, John Frizby, Musscll Fleetwood, William W. Mitchell, and Thomas Nicholson. Mr 15. Mclvor was also proposed, and will be ballotted for in due course. The secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet, which were adopted. The Club will start this season with a balance of £24 Is 5d to the good ; but after paying away nearly £3OO in stakes last meeting, and expending a considerable sum in labor and improvements since that time, the Club arc really about £6 to the debit. A portion of rent has since come due, which gives a credit balance of over £24. Against tin's is a small sum for advertising account, which had not been paid. Altogether the Club can be said to be in a very good position. Thcfollowing office-bearers were elected: Stewards, Messrs J. Hair, J. Cotter, J. WDurio, C. Symes, and W. Lowes. Mr Lowes was unanimously appointed judge ; Mr J. Chadwick starter; Mr A. Aiken clerk of the course ; Mr Norman clerk of the scales. Mr F. Symes was elected president, and Mr F. It. Jackson vicepresident. Mr J. B. Taylor was unanimously re-elected secretary, and Mr Ballam treasurer.

The date of the meeting was fixed for the 9th of November, on the almost unanimous vote of the meeting. It was proposed by Mr J. Chadwick, seconded by Mr E. Durie, that Mr Hateley be handicapper, and in the event of his refusing to act, the stewards have power to appoint a handicapper or haudicappers from the club ; and that the secretary write to Mr Hately informing him of his appointment, and also that a sum of five guineas would be at his disposal if he choose to accept it as a reward for his services.—Carried.

The following programme was then drawn up : Hurdle Handicap of 40 sovs.; Hack Hurdles of 10 sovs.; WaverleyWaitotara Guineas of 105 sovs.; Flying Handicap of 40 sovs. ; Maiden Plate of 40 sovs.; Waver! ey-Waitotara Handicap of 125 sovs, 20 sovs. second horse, 5 sovs. third ; Ladies’ Purse of 30 sovs.; Forced Handicap of 25 sovs. Eight races in all. Nominations for the handicaps close September 22nd. Weights appear on the 6th October and general entries on the 26th October.

Mr Chadwick gave notice of motion “That the Waverley Guineas be open in future to foals bred in any part of the world, and that foals from mares trained in England be allowed Tlbs.if foaled after the month of January.” Votes of thanks to the out-going office bearers, also to the gentlemen who rendered assistance at the ploughing bee, and to the Chairman, were unanimously accorded ; and the meeting was brought to a termination shortly before one o’clock on Saturday morning.
