NEW ZEALANDERS CONCEITED?

OPINION IN AUSTRALIA. Electric Teligraph—Press Association MASTERTON, March 23. New Zealanders are welcomed in Australia with open arms, said Mr L. Snow sill, at the Masterton Rotary Club luncheon to-day. Mr Snowsill, who is a New Zealander, has lived in Australia for the past 10 years, and is on a holiday here at present. “Wherever you meet New Zealanders over there they are in good jobs,” Mr Snowsill said. One thing, however, which Australians had against New Zealanders was their conceit. In fact, the opinion over there was that New Zealanders considered themselves the salt of the earth. He mentioned that a friend spent a holiday in New Zealand and later expressed the highest opinions of the country. She had not realised that the scenery could have been so good, and the generosity (and hospitality of the people were really striking. The only trouble was that while they called New Zealand “God’s Own Country,” every New Zealander thought he was God.
