APPREHENSION IN BUCHAREST

The press unanimously attacks Sir Samuel Haare, accusing him “of irresponsible agitation.” From Geneva it is stated without confirmation that passenger traffic through the Brenner Pass is suspended to facilitate troop movements and shipments of munitions going from Germany to Italy. A Prague message says the Gestapo arrested nearly 200 Skoda workers suspected of sabotage. Public apprehension in Bucharest as the result of partial mobilisation is deepening despite reassuring official statements that it is merely precautionary and demobilisation can bo expected within a fortnight unless something untorseen occurs. A cinema audience, mainly soldiers and civil servants, hissed the appearance of Herr Hitler in a newsreel.
