An untenanted seven-roomed house at Fern hi 11 ownea by M r J Mac Far of Napier, way completely destroyed by fire about 10 o’clock last night. The last occupant. Mr Max Miller, who, with his family, had lived in the residence lor several years, moved from the dwelling about two weeks ago and returned only yesterday to take out his furniture. The house was built only seven years ago, being of bungalow design. A passer-by first noticed the fire at about 10 p.m., when it was a small I, laze in the vicinity of the kitchen. ! ho outbreak spread rapidly, and in the absence of water efforts to suppress it were unavailing. Mr Hereweni Matthews, broke a window m the front of the house when the fire was confined to the rear portion and made a hurried search, satisfying himself that the house was not occupied and that there wa s no furniture.
