Electric Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, March 22. “Did he succeed in obtaining from you the whole of your life-savings?” was a question put to a woman witness. a. widow, when William George Alexander Phillips, aged 63, a carpenter. was charged with bigamy. It was alleged that, having married in the Registrar’s Office in Wanganui in 1925. he went through the form of marriage at the Registrar’s Office at Welling! on in 1938. In addition, he was charged with obtaining at various dates, £430 in money from a woman by the false pretence that he was a William Alexander James, a single man, and would marry her. After evidence had been tendered, he pleaded guilty to both charges and was committed to the Supieme Court for sentence.
