PAYS VISIT TO PAHIATUA ACCORDED WARM. WELCOME. The Rt. Rev W. H. Howse, B.A , Aloderator of the General Assembly ot tho Presbyterian Church of N.Z. paid a visit to Pahiatua yesterday and in the evening conducted an inspiring service at St. Paul’s. At the conclusion ol the service a social hour was held in the Sunday Schoolroom when the Rev. and Airs Howse met the people of the local < barge The Rev. A A. Aimstrong welcomed the Rt. Rev. aud Airs Howse and visitors from sister churches, mentioning that he hail had a multitude of people ask bin* to apologise for their absence, being unable to attend for various reasons. With the Aloderator they had returned that day from Pongaroa, the Rev. Howse Wanting to visit as much, ot the parish as possible. The Deputy-Mayor, Air W. T Brown, on behalf of the* citizens ol Pahiatua. extended a. hearty welcome, saying he thought Pahiatua was to be congratulated in being honoured with a visit from the Rev. and ALrs Howse. He said that he had appreciated the Aloderator’s sermon in the service and hoped ihe address would have a lasting impression on the congregation. On behaif of the citizens he hoped both the Rev. and Airs Howse would enjoy their visit to Pahiatua and carry away pleasant memories oi their stay in the town. He added that he realised and appreciated the good work done by the Church, it often being seen in the course of his civic duties. He concluded with greetings and a hearty welcome from the people of Pahiatua. Capt. Koarse of the Salvation Army, on behalf of the Alinisters Association welcomed the Rev. and Airs Howse, saving that the Aloderator's duties and responsibilities were heavy indeed but he was sure the Rev. Howse could carry them out io their fulfilment. The Rt. Rev. Howse, in reply, thanked the deputy-Alayor, Capt Kearse, the Rev. Armstiong and the congregation for their warm wek-onn* The Rev. Armstrong was he said a man who would not only be always out foj the good oi the church but for the welfare of tho people generally. He was a man who was deeply read and had a fund of ideas. He referred to the manner in which the Rev. Armstrong had conducted the special service last Sunday. He spuk • of the great work done bv the voluntary workers of the church in its many phases and outlined the work of a minister, saying it was a job which kept going every day witbo a a break.
