The story depicts how George, a rimple Lancashire boy. is left a fortune by an eccentric relative, but in order to get it fie has +o buy a. set oi seven chairs one of which contains hidden wealth. D> avion, a crooked family solicitor, learns his secret, as also does Alax. a wily travelling salesman who poses ns George’s friend. When the chairs .re sold by auction to separate purchasers, the scramble for the fortune begins. How, after screamingly hilarious adventures, George finally secures the chair, the fortune—and, itis presumed—a wife, forms the meat of the story.
