EARLY MORNING BLAZE.
FIRE AT KONINI. MABEY’S HOUSE DESTROYED. About 6.30 this morning Mr Job Mabey’s house at Ivon ini caught fire, and, fanned by a heavy wind, was soon demolished by the flames. At the time the menfolk were in the yard milking and Mrs Mabey (who is ill at present) and her daughter were alone in the house. It was impossible to prevent the spread of the flames owing to the high wind, and efforts were concentrated on saving some of the contents. The amount of the insurances are as yet unknown but Mr Mabey had a cover with the Standard office. The Alabeys’ house, it will be recalled, was caught by fallen trees in Sunday week’s storm, and Mr Mabey himself had a narrow escape when he was blown from the roof of his shed, sustaining broken ribs as a result.
