Forty pistols and 3000 cartridges concealed in a hold were seized, when plain clothes police raided the steamer City of Christchurch, from New York, and arrested 18 of the crew for smuggling arms. Political terrorists recently have so increased that a special force of police has been formed to raid suspected ships.
