LEGACY OF THE STORM.
FRUITGROWERS’ BAD PLIGHT Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. Steps are being taken by the* fruitgrowing organisations in Auckland district to obtain relief from the heavy losses suffered as a result of the gale last week-end. Thousands of trees have been destroyed and many growers have lost a great proportion of their present season’s crop. The plight of orehardists was outlined in a message sent by the Oratia Fruit-growers' Association to the Government. The message asked that some measure of relief be given to stay over the hardship that all were confronted with. Tt was estimated that the* district had suffered the loss of 50.000 cases of marketable fruit as well as several thousand fruit t roes.
