THE SHIPPING STRIKE.
OFFER MADE BY OWNERS.
SEAMEN NOT SATISFIEB. United Press Assn.—By Electric T elegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 29. Th seamen here are disinclined to accept the terms proposed in settlement of the shipping strike adopted by the shipowners and strike leaders yesterday but will await the decision of the Sydney seamen's meeting to-morrow. The terms are that the men should offer for work under the new award and also apply for licenses under the Transport Workers’ Act on all vessels not at present in commission, such vessels to be manned exclusively by unionists, and that members of the Seamen’s Union agree to fill all vacancies as they occur.
The shipowners agreed to engage no more volunteers after the union passed a resolution authorising members to resume work. The shipowners have assured volunteers at present working that they will not be displaced.
