NEW TRAIN SERVICE.

The fulfilment of the long-cherish-ed hopes of a direct railway service between New Plymouth and Auckland was reached on Monday, when the first passenger express to traverse the new route via Ohura arrived at New Plymouth practically on schedule time shortly after 6 a.m. The train was well patronised, and was greeted on arrival at New Plymouth with cheers from a large crowd which had gathered despite the early hour. The patronage accorded the first train was promising for the future.
