FABULOUS TREASURES RECOVERED: United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, August 22. Fabulous treasures of Mexico's illstarred royalty are reported to have geen recovered from the sea-floor in Virginia, where they had lain lor 20 years, since the Ward liner Merida sank. Captain Bowdoin, a noted salvager, reports hoisting a safe believed to contain the Crown jewels of the unfortunate Maxmilian and his mad Empress Carlotta. The jewels of Maxmilian have been a legend of Mexico since the ’sixties, when Napoleon sent his puppet, Haisburg, and his bride to rule the Virgin Empire. Maxmilian went before a firing, squad and his Empress became insane from shock and suffered the loss of memory and identity. She died a few years ago in obscuri tv.
