HOSTILITY TO INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE. Electric Telegraph— Rress Assw CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night* Mr E. L. Mills, Independent Labour candidate for Lyttelton, met a hostile audience at Woolston tonight. He had a quiet meeting until question time, and then much hostility to his candidature was shown. In reply to one questioner, who suggested that somebody was finding funds for Mr Mills to come out and split the Labour vote, Mr Mills said he was being supported by men who believed in independence. He also declared; “Already I have been offered a sum of money to withdraw from the contest, and the offer did not come from the Coalition.”
