OVER 25,000 HEAD YARDED.
ANNEAL EWE FAIR TO-DAY. One. if not the, biggest ewe fairs ever held in the district is taking place to-day. It was the Pahiatua annual ewe fair conducted by Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., Ltd., and Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. Over 25,000 head were yarded and the congestion was so great that it was found necessary to. divide Dalgety and C'o.’s paddocks into extra pens to accommodate the phenomenal yarding Yesterday, all roads leading to Pahiatua. were dotted with mobs of sheep, and almost every available packlock in the vicinity of the saleyards was utilised last night as a holding paddock. Heavy rain and a high, blustery wind this morning threatened to hamper proceedings but about noon the weather broke somewhat though the wind kept up. ■ There was a record attendance of buyers, for some of the leadinglines in the district were under auction. It was expected that the sale would last to well on in the evening.
