ALLEGED BABY FARMING.
ILLEGITIMATE- CHILDREN DISAPPEAR. Electric Telegrapn—licss Association Wellington, January 17. Daniel Richard Cooper and Maltha Cooper were before the Court - today on charges of unlawfully detaining- an infant child, and the male accused with supplying A. Sutherland with a noxious thing, knowing the same to be used for a-n illegal purpose, and were remanded until January 24 th. An application for bail by the female accused was sjtrongly opposed by Mr Maoassey for the Crown, as it might, be said to defeat the ends of justice at various times. Four illegitimate children had been placed in charge of the accused and they had failed to give an account of three -of them, and had made contradictory statements concerning the fourth. Besides, the body of a child had been found buried oil the promises recently occupied by the accused, n these circumstances, il’ bail was granted, there might, he very serious results. Bail was not allowed. It is understood that Messrs 1. YE Wilford and A. Hanlon have been reta-ied to defend the accused.
