Mr Barton, S.M.. to-day hail before him a petition for an inquiry into the validity of the recent halfholiday poll, which resulted in Saturday being carried by one vote. Ho held that the poll" must be declared void on till' ground (11 that the voting pa-por was not in accordance with tlie Act in that it provided only for. ai vote on- the question whether the holiday should be Thursday or Saturday. whereas it should have afforded a. choice among all the working days of the week, and (2) that the requisition asking for the poll did not comply with the Act.
