The petition for the release of \Y. V. Whitt a, senr., who was sentenced to three months’ hard labour on a charge of bookmaking, was signed by 10,280- persons in four days. The* petition is to be presented to the Actl.njgJPrime M£n|->tier on Tuesday morning by Messrs Lester (Mayor of LytteVton) and T. Armstrong, a member of the Christchurch City Council.
