Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The High Commissioner’s cable, dated September 19th, states: Mutton: The market is firmer, partly owing to purchases for the Government. Canterbury s|d for light-weight, heavy-weight 5 fd. North Island 5Jd for light-weight, ewes old. Lamb : The market is weaker and slightly lowe>\ The demand has considerably fallen off on account of the, high prices. Canterbury twos 613-16 d, other than Canterbury 6 5-Bd, for lightweight of very best quality, 61d for fair average quality. Beef: The market is firmer owing to short supply of chilled. New Zealand hinds 6fd, fores 5Jd : chilled hinds 71, fores s|d. Butter: The market is quiet for best quality; the supply falls short of the demand. Danish, steady, 128 s to 130 s; Australian, small supplier coming forward, 116 s to 120 s: Irish creamery, very slow, 112 s to 118 s; Argentine, 116 s to 118 s. Cheese: The market is quiet but steady. Canadian, slow, 75s to 765; English cheese, quiet, 76s to 84s. The market prices of New Zealand butter and cheese arc not quoted this week as the supply is practically exhausted.
