ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A FALL OF EARTH. Elec trio Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Henry Newton, aged forty, was killed in a fall of earth near Nightcaps to-day. He was undermining a bank when the face came away breaking liis back. He leaves a widow and eleven children. FOUNDATION COLLAPSES. Auckland, Last Night. A man named H. Wallace, employed on the foundations for a brifck wall in Gundry street, was buried beneath a fall of building material. It was stated at the inquest, that the foundations were not properly set. The inquest was adjourned to obtain further evidence. A MAN MISSING. Dunedin, Last Night. John H. King, aged 69. a resident of Pembroke, left Matakainui last Monday to ride home. His horse was found with the saddle and bridle on. A search has been organised. A CHILD SCALDED. Dunedin, Last Night. Agnes Catherine Landreth, aged ten , months, died at Owaka from scalds accidentally received. WHITE ISLAND ERUPTION. Auckland, Last Night. Mr Willoughby, the managingdirector of the Sulphur Company, is inclined to fear that the disaster happened at night, in which case the employees would have been taken unawares. Had it occurred in the day time tlie men would not have been working in tlio dangerous part, but on absolutely quiescent ground. There were three ernters on the island, from one of which there woro constant emissions of steam and smoke. FISHING BOAT RUN DOWN. New Plymouth, Last Night. The Harbour Board dredge, Pnritutu, ran down a fishing bout, off the breakwater this morning. One of the occupants, Flinders Hursthouse, though only a short time in the water, succumbed to shock, being in a bad state of health. Ho was all elderly man and a brother of tho late C. Wilson Hursthouse.
